My Journey into Data Consultancy: A Summer with Cloud Perspective

As my nine-week placement at Cloud Perspective wraps up, I’ve taken time to reflect on a journey that not only shaped my thinking and confirmed my career direction, it also opened the door to exciting opportunities in data consultancy. Coming in, I imagined a typical office setting: quiet desks, minimal social interaction, heads down in code. But what I found couldn’t have been more different. The atmosphere was open and warm, people genuinely cared, and conversations flowed naturally. I quickly felt part of a team that valued curiosity, collaboration, and even a bit of fun.

What I Brought With Me

Although I come from a physics background, I arrived with a set of skills that proved incredibly useful:

  • Analytics and pattern recognition, which helped with dashboards and data interpretation.
  • Coding in Apex and foundational knowledge of Salesforce, which made diving into CRM work smoother.
  • Clear communication, shaped by years of simplifying complex concepts for non-specialists.

These tools helped me settle into the placement quickly and confidently, bridging the gap between science and business.

What I Learned

The hands-on experience was incredibly rewarding:

  • I gained three Informatica Foundation Certificates (MDM, CDGC, IDMC).
  • I worked extensively with Salesforce, and I’m currently preparing to complete my Salesforce Administrator Certificate
  • I built on key skills: problem-solving, stakeholder communication, and technical agility.

What stood out most was the opportunity to see real-world impact through data, whether helping shape dashboards or supporting strategic decisions.

Where I’m Headed

With one year left in my physics degree, I’m fully committed to data consultancy as my career path. The technical challenge, constant learning, and real-world relevance are everything I was searching for.

Even more inspiring is Cloud Perspective’s mission to develop young talent. They don’t just train junior consultants, they teach us how business works. From team structure to operations, they offer insights into what it takes to build something from the ground up. Whether I stay in consultancy or pursue my dream of launching a business one day, I’ll carry those lessons forward with confidence.

Final Thoughts

This wasn’t just a learning experience, it was a moment of clarity. Cloud Perspective showed me what a supportive, forward-thinking environment looks like and gave me the tools to grow. Thanks to their trust and investment, I’m stepping into the future with focus, skills, and momentum.

A huge thank you to everyone who made these nine weeks so memorable. From the colleagues who patiently shared their wisdom to the friends I made over coffee breaks and team chats, you’ve all made a lasting impression. I truly felt welcomed and supported, and that sense of belonging means more than I can say.
